Chapter 29: Top Gear

They moved with purpose, with skill, they were hunters, warriors, they were the Jyuken High Wildcats. Bounding between trees, bodies covered head to toe in fur it wound not have been hard for the average bystand to mistake them for feline Yokai, for werecats, they certainly didn’t move like civilized creatures and only wore the most basic of clothes in tight shorts and a sports bra. In the clearing where they landed one by one they panted exhausted as a more traditional catgirl moved among them with a canteen over one shoulder and a bowl in her free hand she filled periodically as she passed each girl giving them a moment to lap at the cool water and for them to share a purr and the catgirls petted each of their heads in turn.

“Good girls! Great even!” Hiro purred as she glanced over to a smiling Jessie, “What’s their times look like Jessie?”

Jessie was in her human form, dressed in her gym ware, a short shirt, sports bra, and a midriff vest, along with running shoes and athletic tape that crept out of her shoes as well as wrapping around her fists.

“Just over twenty seconds, really impressive!” Jessie exclaims with a broad smiled, “Really great work girls!”

The girls looked among themselves and mad various mewls and other cat noises but Hiro just shook her head, “That’s enough for one session girls, besides the press has been waiting to talk to you.”

just behind Jessie stood a group nearly as large as the Wildcats, a mix of men and women with microphones, and cameras, and at Hiro’s comment one of them men step forward, camera man right behind, as he pressed the mike to Hiro’s face, “You can understand them? Are you the new team captain? Who provided your Inducers? Are they supplying the team?”

Hiro’s ears twitched as she laughed nervously, thankfully Jessie strode over and threw her arm around Hiro confidently and smiled at the cameras, “This is Hanna, aka Blooming Sakura, she’s not on the team, not officially, besides it would be kind of rude to just promote some new comer to captain after it was Butch and the others who got us into the finals.”

Hiro/Sakura flustered, coughing nervously, her voice cracking, “R-Right I’m just an f-friend of Jamie’s, and s-since I’m a c-catgirl I can natively understand and communicate with the girls s-since their Potential has stripped them of that functionality. Despite appearances Butch and the other girls are just as smart as ever and their grads haven't dropped a point they just have a rather...extreme...disability.”

One of the girls, who had cheetah like pattern to her fur and hair nodded and mewled, ending in a long feline sigh. A lion girl next to her nuzzled her gently in response and licked her gently. This started a small chain of mewls and chatter.

“Girls! Girls! you’re getting off track! Focus! Focus!” Hiro cut in with authority as she glared at the girls, baring her fangs, ears folding back and her tail fur on end as she puffed out her chest.

The girls all hissed and looked away, avoiding her gaze and Hiro looked back to the camera with a nervous laugh, “S-Sorry, sometimes they just go off on tangents, like that. They just get so used to no one understanding them they they just slip into their own little world.”

A female reporter laughs, “That’s quite alright, it’s not them we’re going to be asking the questions of.”

Jessie smirks, watching Hiro sweat under the reporters attention, the yokai part of her still found a sadistic pleasure in things she would never consciously act on.

“S-Still,” Hiro’s voice cracked again, a but more of the cat seeping into her voice in her nervousness, “anyan catgirl at ha-yom would understand and I’d rather they didn’t air their dirty laun-nya-dry in public, nya.”

This got a chuckle out of several reporters as the wildcats began to groom each other just behind Hiro and Jessie, “So where did you get your Inducer Ms. Sakura? Is it going to be the new Sponsor of the Wildcats?”

Hiro cleared her throat and tossed back her hair as she leaned toward the camera flashing the views at home a good bit of cleavage and a closer look at the teardrop jewel around her neck, “Today I’m trying out Manna Jewelers Cat’s Eye Pendent as my Inducer. Truth is I haven’t chosen a sponsor yet. Not even sure if I want to go MG full time, but Jessie was a bit overwhelmed by all the offers, and since she isn’t compatible with an Inducer after her operation and the rest of the girls have evolved beyond Inducers I offered to step in, and find the right fit.”

“Can any Inducer even fix what Magic Inc. broke?”

Hiro shook her head as she stood back up, “I have to hope someone out there can, I mean we have medicine to teat the side effects, and the girls were able to overcome it, even tap their own Potential without a functional Inducer when it seemed like their power was spent. That means they still have the Power inside them and...”

“...And they keep getting faster and faster,” Jessie chimes in with a laugh, “we’re going to sweep the finals, their going to need to make a new weight class for our tier level!”

this gets the girls all talking and laughing among themselves purring, as they puff out their chest and smile proudly, giving a who new meaning to a ‘pride of cats’ with their posture.

“What about Diamond Dames,” one of the reporters asks, “At one of the leaders in all things Magical Girl they must have...”

The Reporter stops short as several of the girls scramble over to a nest of bang nestled around a tree and bound over to Hiro on all fours with a collection of laminated papers in their mouth and start up another conversation among themselves, leaving Hiro flustered as she looks through the papers, and then smiles sheepishly to the camera as she folds them up and fans them out to show just the Diamond Dames letter heads.

“Y-Yeah so as you can see Carmen, Cassidy, and Hun have all gotten invites from the Diamond Dames for a tour, given how quickly they snatched up Jessie they might just be in luck bu-”

Hiro was interrupted as the girls started to squabble, hissing and growling, which in turn caused Hiro to bear her own fang and snarl back in a very loud and primal way, her fur once again on end as her eyes shimmered with magical light that almost seemed to hypnotize the other girls and draw their focus, “Girls! Girls! Now is nyow ~mrowl~ tyme!” before her voice dropped completely into feline as she spent a good minute hissing and growling as the girls all dropped their heads and slink back into a lineup leaving the reports a confused, and a bit scared by the time she looked back toward them the twinkle in her eyes fading but at the same time commanding their obedience as Hiro took a moment to lick the back of her hand and groom her hair back into place before taking a swig of her canteen and clearing her throat.

“S-Sorry about that, Jessie is a bit of a sore spot for everyone...”
“We’re all head over heals to see her get such a great opportunity before she even graduates,” Jamie steps in, “But the girls are a bit on edge about loosing to many members before the finals and jeopardizing their placement, if we drop under five we can’t compete and this is Jyuken High’s first shot at the finals.”

“As well as being the trendsetters for new records,” one of the reporters inserts as their confidence starts to return.

Jessie, Hiro, and the girls all nod together, “They just don’t want to loose anyone before the finals, but Hun and the others are nervous that the Diamond Dames will rescind their offer if they wait that long so things got a little...heated.”

“So Ms. Carrera,” a reporter turned their mike to Jessie, “If you can understand the girls why do you need Ms. Sakura?”

Jessie coughs nervously, “I can only understand them sometimes...but this is hardly the only time the subject has come up.”

“But you have no hard feeling about loosing Captain Jassie Mio yet have arguments this intense on just touring with the Diamond Dames?”

The girls all look away sheepishly as Hiro clears her throat again, “Again it’s not Jessie that has them on end, Every girl has gotten at least 3 offers from out of state, or even out of country agency that what to snatch them away, and a tour, if it goes longer then expected, or they get sick like Alex did when he toued Japan with Jessie that could mean we default on the finals, but if they stay and loose will the offers still be valid? What about winning? They would be winning on their own merits and their sponsor wont have a shot until next year, meaning they wouldn’t be in nearly the pressure to sign the girls now. That’s what has them all wound up.”

A tiger girls steps forward and purrs, nuzzling Hiro and says something softly, that makes Hiro blush slightly, “That’s not necessary Hun, I wanna see the home team make the finals as much as anyone, if it wasn’t me somebody else would have stepped up.”

Hun continued to purr and nuzzle before gently licking Hiro’s face and returning to the line up, which only made her blush more, thankfully Jessie wasn't showing any signs of jealousy which helped diffuse the situation a bit more.

Laughing nervously and scratching the back of her head Hiro takes a breath before addressing the mike in her face and the confused looks on the reporters, “H-Hun was just thanking me for taking on the work of trying out each of the sponsors gear, and putting myself at risk like she endued thanks to Magic Inc.”

One of the female reports gasped in horror, “Is Inducer failure common? M-My daughter just got her first Inducer last week? Is she going to go f-feral?”

Hiro smiled calmly, “You investigated the compnay right? They have good record right?”

The woman nodded as she suddenly became part of the interview.
“Who was it?”
“What’s your daughter's Potential?”
“Is she an Athlete, Guardian, or Personal MG?”
“Were you there for her first Induction?”

Hiro chuckled, “Well I can see our Fifteen minutes are coming up so to answer your question miss....”

“Mayapple, Madalyn Mayapple, for MGNN out of Orlando, Florida,” the fluster reporters quickly inserts.

“Ms. Mayapple,” Hiro smiles, “That’s one of the first things I do when picking offers, now that’s not to say I’m only looking at the big names but I am looking at their history, rest assured that even though I’m going to be running a different Inducer next week that any Inducer you see me trying is one I have done research on and believe to be of value...” she smiles wide, “it’s just that the Wildcats cant be sporting Inducers from 8 different teams, their needs to be some uniformity in their uniforms.”

Trowing back her hair and smiling, her eyes gleaming with magic she purrs as she presses her chest and the pendent back into prominent view, “So Remember Manna Jewelers, Blooming Sakura tested and approved, we don’t just make your little girl Magical but we also make you look magical! Manna Jewelers where the magic of beauty isn’t just reserved for the Chosen Few!”

And across the city, across the nation, a dozen plus boys and girls (and a number more teens and adults) had their first (celebrity) crush ignited.
